Antique 14K Black Onyx White Agate Hardstone Cameo Brooch

This exquisitely detailed 14K Victorian onyx cameo brooch is beautifully hand carved with an aristocratic lady in profile dressed in the Greecian style of the early 1800s. Surrounded by 49 2mm natural seed pearls, the black onyx background contrasts strikingly with the white onyx carving. Highly detailed this cameo is a fine addition for the collector and lover of the art of antique cameos. Fitted with a pin stem and locking C clasp. Truly exceptional. Agate which includes black onyx, is often banded. Cameos of this type were created by master carvers, carving into the white agate and slowly removing the white material to reveal the black onyx underneath. This is a solid piece, not two pieces glued together.
The brooch measures 1 3/4" x 1 3/8", and weighs 12.7 grams.
Very good condition. A chip or rough spot is on the back of the cameo. This does not affect beauty or stability.
