Antique Bohemian Garnet Necklace
One of the most beautiful antique Bohemian garnet necklaces Ive ever seen. Composed of 22 links featuring an oval cabochon pyrope garnet surrounded by rose cut garnets. The oval cabochons measure approximately 7mm x 5mm. As is typical from Victorian Bohemian garnet jewelry, the metal is a gold gilt alloy, often referred to as garnet gold.
Bohemian garnet jewelry came from the Czech region of Europe, and are the pyrope garnet variety. Bohemian jewelry refers not only to the type of garnets used, but all the way they are cut and arranged in cluster form. Rose cuts, faceted brilliants, and cabochons were the stone cutting most used in these beautiful pieces. Made as early as the 18th c., Bohemian garnet jewelry gained favor and popularity with the Victorians into the 1920s.
The necklace measures 15 1/4" in length. The individual links measure 5/8" x 1/2". The oval cabochons measure approximately 7mm x 5mm. The necklace weighs 44.5 grams.
