Early 19th c. Gold Miniature on Ivory Signed Karl von Saar
This exquisitely painted miniature portrait is by Austrian artist, Karl von Saar (1797-1853). The young lady, painted on ivory, is dressed in a blue dress with lace d'colletage and a fur stole on her shoulder, black ribbon and pearl necklace, and blue and yellow head dress. Framed in 14K yellow gold in the revived Rococo style, the brooch is fitted with a pin stem and fold over, swivel pendant bail. The brooch measures 2 1/8" x 2" and the portrait measures 1 1/2" x 1 1/4". Circa 1830s.
