J Tostrup Norway, Grete Prytz Kittelsen, Wide Green Enamel Sterling Bangle Bracelet

Looking at and holding this bracelet, it is evident why Grete Prytz Kittelsen was known as the Queen of Scandinavian Design. The wide sterling silver bangle is substantial in feel and weight. The simple rope like design is enameled in a vitreous rich green color. The bangle is secured by a modified trombone clasp. The inside is stamped with the J Tostrup makers mark. This is a spectacular bracelet, that makes an elegant yet modern statement.
This bangle design was dated 1946 by the National Museum of Norway.
Born in 1917, Kittelsen graduated in goldsmithing from the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry in 1941, and went to work with the J Tostrup goldsmith firm. Known for her work in silver, enamel, and plastic Grete Prytz Kittelsen received many awards, including the Lunning prize in 1952, and in 1954 the Grand Prix at the Triennale in Milan for her enamel collection. She is one of the most well known Norwegians in the Scandinavian Design Movement, and her work is quite collectible. Her jewelry in particular is rare and hard to come by.
