Vintage Antique Shell Cameo Sterling & Natural Seed Pearl Brooch

This antique shell cameo brooch is understated elegance and beauty. The ladys bust is in the classical Greecian style on translucent shell, set in sterling silver framed with natural seed pearls. The heavy pin stem and style of carving indicate an age in 1870-80 range. The clasp was most likely replaced in the early 20th c. The brooch has a hanging bail allowing it to be worn on a fine chain as a pendant. Measures 1 3/4 x 1 3/8. Condition is good. The cameo has two fine hair line crazing. Circa 1870s - 1880s.
